You’re In Good Hands

 You're In Good Hands
Just recently listened to a wonderful audio by Brene Brown on TED talks on the power of vulnerability. Wow. Definately a must listen. She raised some good questions for us around vulnerability: How do we each learn to embrace our vulnerabilities and imperfections given that it's an inevitable part of our humanity?

How do we nurture the courage to consistently reinforce the belief that we are enough, that we deserve to be loved and supported for our whole self? Acknowledging our needs may be difficult enough to do, let alone verbalising these to someone else. This takes courage and allows for deeper connection. There is always that fear that if we take the risk of asking we may hear a no. But of course, if we never take the risk we never get to hear yes.

"If we never take the risk of asking for help we never get to hear yes."

If you have taken the risk and asked for support when you've been vulnerable and received a 'yes' you will now how incredibly relieving it can be to finally have help. To finally have someone see you and support you. Carrying something alone for some time can not only be exhausting but very lonely. Many women have an amazing capacity for multi-tasking -  juggling work, family, special interests and external studies within a humble week.  When do we find the time and self compassion to put our hand up and say, 'Stop the ride, I want to get off!" or "I need help, it's too much."

'Stop the ride, I want to get off!" – I need help, it's too much."

For some of us getting ill can be the only way we allow ourselves time to rest. Stopping for rest, asking for help, paying for help even – can be such a relief.  Just making sure we are taking care of ourselves, honouring our mind, body, spirit is a turning point for feeling more empowered.  It is also exceptional modelling for our children, that it's okay to rest sometimes, it's okay to pause, to reflect, to be, to replenish. That is all part of the journey of life.
"We're in this together."

Getting help allows people the opportunity, actually the gift to give to you, to be loving and to genuinely connect with you.  We're in this together. If we don't honour and give to ourselves we're actually no good to anyone else.

Our strength lies in our vulnerability and our willingness to keep our hearts open in spite of all the painful blows that life throws at us. By allowing your heart to remain open you will not only learn faster and heal faster, but all those delicate and beautiful parts of yourself will begin to flourish.    Lubna Salah
